Dark and Bright grotto is one of the most attractive caves in Halong Bay. It lies on the border of Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay. It is far from Surprise cave area around 2km.

Just at the base of the islands, there is an arched entrance leads to the grotto right at the water level. Passing through the natural entrance, tourists come across a tranquil round lake, surrounded by luxuriant trees and different sized stone walls.  A see-lake is formed by the imposing islands sheltered from the blows of sea wind and only connected with the sea through a 4m wide, 100m long, and 3m high mouth. There are weeping fig trees shading inside and many orchids hang their sweet-scented flowers.

The beauty of the site is the mingling all factors of nature including limestone mountains of various shapes and sizes, the emerald crystal water and azure clouds on the high above sky. That all makes a unique site for tourists to visit.

You will also be surprised with the imposing limestone islets and mountain in this area. On the cliff one still find traces of fossils of fresh-water snails, which prove that human used to live there and this must have been a deep valley then.

The best way to discover Dark and Bright cave is doing kayaking and swimming through the tunnel. The Dark cave is the long and very dark, so you need a torch to pass this cave. The Light cave is short and you can see the other bright side from this side. Tourists can visit Bright cave easier because it doesn't depend on the tide while the other can be swallowed by the tide and difficult to go inside.
