The new faster way to access to Ha Long Bay | Luxury Halong Cruises

Van Don International Airport – The new faster and easier way to access to Ha Long Bay, one of UNESCO World Natural Heritage of Vietnam.

Van Don International Airport

In the past, visitor must land in Noi Bai and embark on a very long trip to Halong city, but now thanks to Van Don International airport, which was debuted on 30th December 2018, everything has changed. It enables visitors to reach the port in one-hour drive.

By the old way, travellers have to take at least 2 and a half-hour drive to Halong Bay even if we go on the highway from Hanoi. That means they had to squeeze in an overnight trip to the bay into their schedule or sacrifice visiting another part of Vietnam.

Van Don International Airport to Halong bay

Some years ago, trip from Hanoi to Halong takes four hours. From 1 June 2018, the new highway connecting Hanoi and Halong Bay was completed, cutting the four-hour drive in half. And now, we can have direct flights to Van Don, and take one more hour to get to Halong.

As a result, the rate of foreign tourists to Vietnam increases by 19.9% comparing with the previous year (vietnamtourism.gov). In this year, Vietnam hopes to see 18 million international arrivals and Van Don International Airport expects to see two million annual passengers by 2020 and some five million by 2030 (traveldailymedia.com).

In addition, the first international cruise port in Viet Nam, which is specially designed by architect Bill Bensley for cruise ships to dock in Halong, was opened. It can accommodate up to 8,460 passengers at once. Viet Nam also aims to replicate the success of Thailand’s islands (Phuket, Koh Phi Phi…) as its tourism develops in the wider Quang Ninh province. Besides tourism, Vietnam aims to boost trade with some countries, such as Taiwan, South Korea, Cambodia and Singapore.
